Jewelry: 1910 - 1939 Art Deco. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN APPLE BLOSSOMS BOTANTICAL FLOWER REVERSE PAINTING ON GLASS LGE. Offered here is a wonderful antique Victorian era botanical painting of a large spray of blooming apple blossoms. The painting is done in reverse on the back of the glass.
The artist first drew the outlines in charcoal then painted. As you can imagine, it is hard to paint in reverse!
When we took off the rough hewn boards on back, we found that the glass was frosted. A mauve colored paper board had been placed behind the glass. A soft mauve color permeates through the glass.
If you's like, you can change your back ground color to fit your decor. We just love the way the soft color works so well with the apple blossoms. We also found an original archival aged piece of beige silk fabric. Has original antique glass with lots of imperfections which is so nice! The original gilt gold frame is very ornate. Signed with the initials of the artist "E D S", reversed. Pretty white, pink and reddish pink flowers with vibrant green leaves and a brown stem. Realistic and well done by this artist. Frame measures approximately 23" wide x 29" high x 2 deep. Site size measures approximately 17" wide x 23" high. Frame is good for the most part. There are spots where the gesso has fallen off and gilt gold paint has been used to fill in the spots. Antique frames are fragile, especially this large size, so please handle with care. If a piece gets loose, it can be re glued easily. Hard to get the exact mauve color of the background. Just know it is the perfect shade!
