Nearly 100 years old, this wonderful and largely undamaged early 20th century reverse painted on cut cornered glass'We Serve Beech-Nut Coffee' signage, was mounted on wood and most likely hung in a cafeteria, diner or other American eatery, advertising Beech Nut coffee to its customers. The glass doesn't suffer from any chips or cracks and the reverse painted underside of the glass sign, is almost undisturbed. It's not perfect but considering its age and the fact that it's a reverse painted glass sign, it would have to be considered to be in quite well-preserved overall vintage condition. The sign's hand lettering features gold gilt enamel paint, surrounded by thin black enamel line, comprising the script'We Serve Beech-Nut Coffee. The gold and black enamel paint is laid down on a field of bright, vivid red enamel paint. The glass is cut at 45 degree angles at the corners and the gold painted edging reflects that this was original. There's only a few instances of interruption of the paint on the underside of the glass, most likely from being exposed to moisture, or steam over a prolonged period of time.
These instances are minor and can clearly be witnessed in the photographs. There's however, no flaking or catastrophic paint failure on the underside of the glass. What I'm describing are merely blemishes and slight imperfections, rather than real damage. This is what I believe makes this particular early 20th century reverse painted glass sign an especially good one and a particularly well-preserved one.Good to Very Good overall vintage condition.
