A large Indian Reverse Glass Painting, in authentic. Period, repeat ribbon pattern frame, the much idolised Hindu deity. One of the more highly detailed , larger examples of the genre. Depicted in this delightfully evocative. Is the highly revered Hindu deity, Krishna, one of the ten avatars or incarnations of Vishnu.

He is the symbol of love, devotion and joy, famous for his love of Radha, infamous for cavorting amongst the gopis, milkmaids , in Vrindavan, Mathura. In this particularly serene rendition of this much idolised god he is shown garlanded and resplendent with jewels and against a glowing, haloed background. This is an example of Indian reverse glass painting at its most detailed , vibrant best , its authentic Art Deco. Indian red, black and ochre. It's very much in the Indian tradition, in which generation after generation of painters recreate images that have gone before with, no doubt.

Tradition, an engraving is laid down on the back of the glass before water or gum arabic paints are applied. This is then fired in a kiln ensuring the paint bonds permanently with the glass.
